Brian
and Beth were born and raised in the Central Illinois corn
belt and also spent some of their early years on family
farms in Northwest Missouri. After marrying in 1985, they
moved to Nashville, TN where Brian attended a mechanics
school and began his career. When their first child was
born, they moved back to NW Missouri to be near Beth’s
family.
As their family grew, they knew they wanted to get back
to the country so their kids could have some of the experiences
that they had had. Over time they purchased a total of 80
acres of Beth’s parent’s farm which had been
row cropped with a corn/soybean rotation for many years.
Wanting to eventually be able to make a living from the
farm and knowing that it was to small for any type of conventional
farming they began to research other avenues of alternative
farming.
They began improvements to the farm by putting about 65
acres in a grass/legume pasture to be used later for rotational
grazing allowing them to raise natural beef , pastured poltury,
and even a milk cow or two.
During this time, Brian and Beth were team driving a truck
across the country hauling mainly produce from California
to the Midwest. After seeing how the food was grown and
then packaged for shipment, they realized how great the
need was to provide naturally grown produce in their own
area. So began four years of research and development of
how to take what had always been for them a large family
garden and turn it into a five acre market garden that could
supply the type of produce that their local community needed
and over time allow them to be able to make a living off
of the farm.
In 2005, they began to supply the best naturally grown produce
they could produce to Hamilton and the surrounding communities.
Each year brings new challenges and more learning but their
goal of providing only the very best naturally grown produce
to their community remains the same.
